March, 2019:
Tom Balch,
my old roommate (He wasn’t old when he was my roommate) called and confirmed
that he Is alive and well, living in Vero Beach, FL. Still beating his
treadmill to death and trying to beat the stock market. He thinks the market is
winning.
Hal
Wassmann of Scottsdale, Az: He and wife, Charlotte, are both
retired but still practicing Realtors. Hal survived 2 years in the Army
as a draftee when the Army in its infinite wisdom took note of his BS in IE and
assigned him to the Chemical Corp. When he escaped he joined GE - served as an
Engineering Manager for 17 years. H spent another 17 years with Honeywell then
retired to Scottsdale to join Charlotte’s Real Estate firm. He is still
active and looks forward to a long, fun life in Arizona. They have a son,
daughter and granddaughter, all nearby. - May 2019
Bill Murray
(deceased) called: He is still in Sugar Land, TX, fighting neuropathy.
Since graduation he went to work for Bechtel Corporation but was drafted and
spent 11 months in South Korea as a vehicle nursemaid. Returned to Bechtel and
earned 2 patents on pump design. Moved from Houston to Oakland, Los Angeles and
Savannah before retiring to Sugar Land. In 1993, at 62, he competed in the
Masters Diving Competition, diving from the 10 meter board! Bill
mentioned that
Jim Reed is still working as a Financial Advisor for somebody in Los
Angeles and that
Bob Kradoska
is alive and well in the Philadelphia area.
Bob Arndt
wrote: My degree was in Civil Engineering, followed by a 25 year career with
Bethlehem Steel. I worked on several major projects: Walt Whitman Bridge in
Philadelphia, Madison Square Garden, Metropolitan Opera House in NYC and the
Seabrook Nuclear Power Station in NH. I think that is very good for a guy that
started as a 10 year old kid with an erector set.
May: David Garden
(deceased), St Helena, CA: I’m still married to my Bethlehem girl and our 5
kids are all living on our ranch, helping out with all the stuff I can’t do as
well as I used to. It is great to sit back and admire the next generations. I
never made it to CEO status but feel that Nancy and I contributed greatly
to our community and raised a fine crop of kids, grandkids and a great, great
granddaughter.
June:
Pat Moran
(deceased) thanked me for giving him a break after 38 faithful years of uninterrupted
service. He is doing well.
Elihu
Schepps writes that he and wife Joan still live in Boca Raton
where he spends his spare time with golf and watercolor painting. They visited
Lehigh in 2016 for their Granddaughter's graduation and when their grandson
Max became a Freshman. - he is now in his Senior year. They usually attend
The Tower Society meetings in Palm Beach and usually see
Bob Reisman and wife Toby
there.
That’s it for this series. What did I learn from the
above? Lot’s of our classmates don’t realize we have a web site that highlights
all of us and what we have done or not done over the years.
Bill.
