Pat Moran
(now deceased):
50th
Reunion
-
June
6-9
We're
less
than
a
year
away
from
"Cruise
Home
to
Lehigh,"
our
501
Reunion,
June
6-9.
Be
there!
This
column
is
coming
from
Monterey,
Calif.,
where
Daz
and I
spent
a
month
in
the
summer
of
2001.
We
loved
the
50-60
degree
temperatures,
(when
Tucson
is
100-plus),
the
seafood,
the
Links
golf,
and
the
magnificent
views
everywhere
you
look.
Nearby
Big
Sur
is a
particular
favorite.
Despite
the
"energy
crisis"
and
the
innate
California
craziness,
this
is
still
a
paradise.
I
like
to
think
of
Monterey
as
Cape
Cod
West.
I
spoke
to Frank Sgambelluri
(deceased), and
he
asked
that
I
remind
you
to
get
your
50-year
resumes
and
photos
to
him
for
the
50th
Reunion
Yearbook.
Frank
has a
real
sense
of
history,
writes
well,
and
will
produce
a
memorable
tome,
I'm
sure.
Frank,
sorry
to
hear
you
have
had
some
kidney
stone
problems
and
had
to
cancel
an
Alaskan
trip.
Trust
you
are
feeling
better.
Bill
Smith
(deceased)
reports
that
the
reunion
fund
committee
meeting
in
May
was
attended
by
Ed
Leidheiser
(deceased)
,
Fortney
(the
co
chairs),
Bob
McCann (deceased)
(class
president),
Adams
(deceased),
Missimer
(deceased)
,
Sgambelluri
(deceased),
Kiesling,
Wilbern
(deceased),
Kerr
(deceased),
Kuss,
Muskin,
Ruestow (deceased)
and
Bill Smith
(deceased).
Most
of
the
talk
was
about
fund-raising
(as
of
July
15,
2001
we
have
raised
$4.8
million
toward
our
$8
million
goal).
A very
funny
letter
came
my
way
from
Jack Moran
(deceased).
Jack,
with
Anaconda
for
many
years,
is
retired
with
his
wife,
Margaret,
in
Dennis,
Mass.
Jack's
recreational
activities
involve
the
ocean.
I
quote
Jack,
"I
have
a
boat
that
doesn't
get
away
from
the
mooring
slip
enough.
I
tend
to
hang
out
with
three
old,
retired
goats,
and
we
spend
our
time
fishing,
clamming
and
running
a
string
of
lobster
pots.
In
the
winter
we
oyster,
ice
fish
and
also
clam.
Our
association
is
like
the
best
days
spent
in
high
school.
Like
school
boys,
we
have
special
names
-
Dick
has
one
eye,
Charlie
has a
central
nervous
disorder,
and
Walter
is
deaf
as a
post.
We
refer
to
each
other
as
One
Eye,
Shaky
and
Deaf.
I'm
mostly
whole
but
am
accused
of
poor
hearing
and
am
referred
to as
'Huh'."
Jack also
has
been
very
busy
with
his
charities
and
his
church.
He
says
it's
much
more
relaxing
to
follow
orders
than
to
give
them.
All
in
all,
it
was a
great
letter
from
a guy
who
sounds
happy
and
content.
Thanks,
Jack.
See
you
in
June.
A
letter
from
San
Jose,
Costa
Rica,
written
by
Luis
Matamoros
'45,
indicates
that
Luis'
brother,
Edgar
Matamoros,
died
in
June.
Together,
the
Matamoros
brothers
ran a
machinery
and
laboratory
equipment
company.
The
class
extends
its
condolences
to
the
Matamoros
family.
I'll
put a
cap
on
this
edition
with
a
letter
from
Ed Leidheiser (deceased)
,
501
Reunion
Fund
co-chair,
who
regularly
keeps
me
"up-to-speed"
on
events
in
North
Carolina.
The
Lehigh
Club
of
Western
Carolinas
met
in
July
to
hear
an
impressive,
educational
talk
by
Lehigh's
President
Farrington.
"Fig"
Figlear,
of
the
Development
Office,
and
Frank
Bailey
were
in
attendance.
Thanks
mates
for
all
the
correspondence.
You
make
my
job a
"breeze."
Make
your
plans
now
for
June
2002
-
we're
going
to
have
fun!
