Fall / Winter 2017
Pat Moran
(now deceased):
Hi, Classmates. I made it! Yes, I did! I made it back to
campus for our 65th Reunion.
As Ralph
Fortney said during the festivities: "We may not have had
quantity, but we sure had quality!"
Those back were:
Robert Arndt,
Richard Barba,
David De
Graaf (deceased),
Wally Field,
Ralph
Fortney,
Robert Riesman,
Robert Kradoska,
Pat Moran
(deceased)
,
Neil Randall
(deceased),
Richard Schaphorst,
Dick Schmidt
(deceased),
Gealy Wallwork and
Richard Washer.
Before my arrival, I envisioned that some of our 'mates might be on walkers or
in wheelchairs, or even on portable oxygen units—not the case at all. Only
one was on a cane and that one was
Me!
The camaraderie was palpable, the class dinner was intimate—excellent food.
Lehigh always goes first class and does things right. Dr. Simon stopped by
to say hello and wished us well.
When you are older than dirt, good things come your way. We might be "on
the back nine," but we are playing with house money.
The campus looked scrubbed and pristine. The student assistants and drivers were
alert and friendly. Every activity was well thought out and professional.
All in all, a very Lehigh affair. Done well and with aplomb.
There isn't much other '52 news. So I will finish with a request. To
those returnees that I missed speaking with, please drop me a line and fill me
in on your activities.
To
Wally Field, who put me up and put up with me for 10 days, thank you for
being a great host and a dear friend.
That's it for now, I will conclude this edition with another tribute to my
beloved, Daz. This prayer comes from Pete Fenger '49, who always
reads the '52 column. Thank you, Pete! Best to you and good luck.
An Irish Prayer: "Death is nothing at all-I have only slipped away into the next
room. Whatever we were to each other that we are still. Call me by my old
familiar name, speak to me in the easy way that you always used to. Laugh as we
always laughed at little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of
me, pray for me.
"Let my name be the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken
without effort. Life means all it has ever meant. It is the same as it ever
was; there is absolutely unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of your mind
because I am out of your sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is passed.
Nothing is lost.
"One brief moment and all will be as it was before-only better, infinitely
happier and forever-we will all be one with Christ." - Carmelite Monastery,
Tallow Co., Waterford
