Summer 2017
Pat Moran
(now deceased):
I am
writing this column on the one-year anniversary of the passing of my beloved
Daz. It's r been a tough year, but I have made progress.
I have
passed through several phases: the shock, denial and anger phases; the
realization phase. I am currently in the "move on” phase: smile, think good
thoughts, happy memories, be strong and surge forward phase. The support I have
received has been heartwarming—thank you, world!
Enough
about me, let's get to class news!
Elihu
Schepps writes that he and his Joan are enjoying retirement in
Boca (West), Fla.
El
plays golf, does some painting and has kept in touch with
Norm Merksamer
(deceased)
and Bob
Reisman.
El
and
Joan have a son and granddaughter who are Lehigh graduates, and a grandson
who is currently a freshman. That's a Lehigh family, for sure! Thanks,
El,
for the wonderful update.
From
Albuquerque, N.M.,
Joe Boandl
writes a very complimentary letter expressing how much he likes the '52 column.
Thanks, Joe, it's a labor of love.
A
heartfelt note from Vancouver, Wash.,
Arvid Kulits'
wife, Zinta, expresses her condolences, and she has been Arvid's
caregiver for 10 years. Editor note: This may be a note from
Arvid as an obituary for him was written in 2020.
Betsey and
Mayo Snyder
(deceased)
were one of Daz and my favorite '52 couples.
Always fun, upbeat and full of life. When I heard of Mayo's passing, I
wrote to Betsey and she responded in kind. We commiserated. Mayo's
life was full—he loved Lehigh, sailing, service in the Navy and hockey. His
specialty, when working, was city planning. One of the highlights of his career
was that, as a consultant to the government of Brazil, he helped in the
selection of a site for the new capital, what would become Brasilia.
Mayo
had advanced degrees from the University of Illinois and MIT. Mayo was
one of the truly "neat guys” and will be missed. RIP, Mayo.
That's
it for this column. Let me hear from you. I'll conclude with another tribute
to my darling Daz:
"Forever
in my heart: A limb has fallen from our family tree. I keep hearing a voice
that says `Grieve not for me. Remember the good times, the laughter, our
songs. The good life I lived which was so strong. Continue my heritage. I'm
counting on you. Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through. My mind
is at ease, my soul is at rest. Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions no matter how small. Go on with your life, don't worry
about falls. I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin. Until the day comes,
we're together again.” Author Unknown.
