Fall 2000 Column

Pat Moran (now deceased):

Hi '52ers. This column is being written in early May 2000, just about two year away from our 50th Reunion!  The recent class letter from vice presidents Ralph Fortney and Ed Leidheiser (deceased)  indicates that the 50' planning is in good hands with president Bob McCann (deceased) overseeing, Bill Smith (our reunion guru - deceased) coordinating, Cass Camarda (secretary)(deceased) recording, and Randy Zehner (deceased, Treasurer) counting the money!  I will report reunion updates as they become available. Set aside June 6-9, 2002 - we are going to have a blast!

Other news from the mail bag: Norm Merksamer (deceased) gave a tour of the New York Stock Exchange (his home turf) to a group of Lehigh students who won a business concept contest.  Norm sprung for lunch and the students loved looking at the business world through "reality" glasses

A release from the Fountain Hills (Arizona) Times states that Dick Schmidt (deceased) ha been appointed to a three-year term on the Parks & Recreation Commission in this Phoenix suburb.  Dick, is president of the Lehigh Club of Arizona and host of the annual Lehigh-Lafayette telecast in Phoenix, is retired from Executone after 35 years in the sales division.  Dick and his lovely wife, Carolyn, are marvelous hosts and dedicated Lehigh boosters.

Bill Smith (deceased), who keeps the "Outpost in the Desert" up to date on class and university news, sends along sports releases that show very good recruiting in football and wrestling.  Bill adds that Dick Evans (retired from Du Pont - deceased) has moved from New Jersey to Chestertown, Md., to be closer to his boat!

I want to include cheers for John Kerr (deceased), M.D, who retired in June from his practice of internal medicine in St. Davids, Pa.  He spent 40 years in medicine, the last 34 on the staff of Bryn Mawr Hospital.

That's all for now except to report a personal note.  I have been chosen from a group of Southwestern senior golfers to represent the U.S.A. in international competition in Ireland, June 2001.  Move over, Tiger!
