Summer 2011
60TH
REUNION, MAY 18 -
19,
2012
Pat Moran
(now deceased):
About fourteen
months from this writing, the Class of 1952 will be enjoying its 60th
reunion. Imagine ... 60 years!
Start making your plans now.
Daz and I will be there.
Have you '52ers
noticed how well Lehigh's athletic teams are doing?
The
wrestling team finished a strong second at the EIWA and defeated Cornell in a
dual meet when Cornell was ranked number 1
in the country. The men's lacrosse team defeated
Navy.
The football team won the
Patriot League with a 10 -
3 record and a win in the playoffs.
Women's soccer was 11 -
5 -
4 and won the Patriot League.
Swimming was 9 -
1 and men's and women's basketball both won Patriot League titles last year and
were very strong this year.
More
importantly, we were 12
-
2 in all sports versus Lafayette!
As much success
as the teams exhibited on the field, their classroom performance was even more
outstanding.
Sixteen of 23 teams posted a GPA greater than 3.0. Fifty-four
percent of student athletes achieved a 3.0 GPA or better. Forty‑one percent had a 3.2 GPA
or better.
Eighteen percent attained
Dean's List (3.6 GPA).
Remarkable statistics.
Now to the
mailbag.
I received a Christmas card
/
letter from Evelyn and
Allen Levan,
who keep in touch regularly and continue their busy life in N.J. I received a photo card from
Betsey and
Mayo
Snyder (deceased),
who year after year just seem to
defy age.
Is it the water in
Cooperstown?
Mary Jo Johnston, Allison Park, Pa., widow
of Jim Johnston,
continues to be very active visiting family, despite both hip and knee
replacements. John Kerr
(deceased),
my old Sigma Nu buddy, sent a great letter reminiscing about the old days and
commenting on the new, allowing as how we might be getting older.
John
and Mims will be aboard for the 60th.
Here are some
stars that might be of interest, thanks to my new alumni contact, Jessi
Schimmel '05:
At graduation, our class of 1952 was about 660 strong (the exact number would
have to be hand counted from the graduation program).
Today, we are 345.
(WebMaster's note: As of September 2nd, the web site shows
343 living, 245 known deceased, 163 have not been heard from for over 10 years
and assumed "Lost" plus 3 unknowns that showed up in this issue of the Alumni
Bulletin. My totals then are 343 living and 411 deceased for a total of
754 '52 graduates) We had 57 classmates return for our 30th
reunion, 95 for our 40th
64 for our 45th
118
for our 50th
and 41 for our 55th.
Let's make our 60th
memorable.
If you cannot attend our 60th
in 2012, feel free to use this forum and reveal your secret for a long life.
You may not think your life is
exciting, but someone else might!
