Received a phone call from
David
Stickell and he brought me up to date on his interesting life: Originally
from Hagerstown, MD. A few days after he graduated from Lehigh he was drafted
and sent to Ft Riley, KS, where he applied and was accepted to OCS. When the
rules changed he would have had to stay in the Army a couple of extra months as
an officer, he opted out. In their infinite wisdom, the Army made him a medic
without giving him any training. David spent his time around Manhattan,
KS, giving shots and driving an ambulance - Corporal Stickell should
apply for the job of giving COVID shots.
He went to Penn State to become an
educational researcher and became an office manager for Exam Services. Married
until 1981 - but says, "My wife and I get along better now than when we were
married." He gave up his motorcycle when he moved to Tampa in 2010 and lets his
daughter, Ellen, look after him.
He sounded great and reasonably
happy with his situation. He still goes to church via Zoom. On February 8th
he received his second COVID shot.
Other than Dave’s update it
has been very quiet here as I sit by the phone waiting to hear from you guys. I
can only assume that you have been so busy that Lehigh updates are low on the to
do list. This column is due at the Lehigh Alumni office on April 1st
so hopefully during the next period, April to August you all will inundate me
with copious reams of dialog informing the world of your exciting adventures.
In the meantime, I have fully
recovered from my bike accident and am back up to an average of 50 to 60 miles a
week. I still manage several web sites and try to stay ahead of the weeds in
our yard - a never ending job in Florida. My best to you all.
