From son, Chris - Thank you for the great pictures of Dad and his
High School Bio. Mom and Dad have always had fond memories of Mt Lebanon
High School. Because of Covid-19 we waited until this month (June) to
have Dad's service. He will be laid to rest in the memorial garden at Wayne
Presbyterian Church in Wayne, PA. Again thanks for sharing your
content. - June 2021

Hope he will update his info to you. January 2018
Ray and
Nancy are planning on coming to the 65th Reunion - February 2013
We moved back to
Pennsylvania in the early part of 2009. We are still getting along pretty
well at our new address which is a continuing care community called
Shannondell in Audubon, PA. Fortunately we are still able to reside in the
Independent Living section and enjoy the area with several children and
grandchildren near by. Hope you all are doing well and that I will be
hearing something from you re Mt L HS in the future. Lot's of snow around
here now, just like the old days in Pgh. - Ray - February 2010
On
Tuesday, May 19th we begin a household move from our Virginia home to a
retirement community named Shannondell located Audubon, PA (Adjacent to
Valley Forge). As of the 21st our new address will be 23622
Shannondell Dr, Audubon, PA, 19403 with phone number of 610 382-2180.
Our e-mail address will change also. - Come see us.
Ray - May 2009
May 2007: Thanks for asking. We are
very much enjoying the greatly increased contacts with our five children and
their families since we moved to Virginia. We have our typical old age
pains but so far nothing bad. Try to keep physically active. Hope all is
well with you and your family. Really looking forward to the 60th.
Ray
January 2007:
Just for the record I thought I might update my place on the web site.
After ten years in lovely Savannah, Georgia,
Nancy and I moved north to Williamsburg, Virginia. So we will try for
ten more here in Fords Colony. We decided to get more centered among our
five children who are spread from Albany, NY down to Henagar, AL. All of
them can make it to the colony with a one day drive now . Played golf with
Bud Keen (Virginia Beach) in
Williamsburg before Christmas so that is another benefit of the move.
We
had all of the extended family at Thanksgiving except one daughter, her
spouse and one grandchild due to an illness in the in-law family. Those
present are in the picture (Click image to enlarge).
If you see the old man in the back row right, that is me. To my right is
son Chris, daughter Sharon, daughter Kate and son
John. Missing is oldest daughter Debbie and family. Crouching
in front left is my wonderful bride of almost 52 years, Nancy (McGhee),class
of '49. In the background is our "new to us" home. We are both a little
achey but active and enjoying the historic triangle of Williamsburg,
Jamestown, and Yorktown. You probably know that the first English
settlement of Jamestown was begun 400 years ago in 1607 so there are many
special events planned including a visit by "The Queen".
We
are looking forward to the next reunion. WHEN IS IT?
December 2004: Nancy and I are still out here even though we
missed the last reunion. We are still enjoying Savannah and had a
great get together with all 18 family members (7 grandchildren) in NYC at
Thanksgiving. We will have a quiet but happy Christmas. We wish
you very much the same. Merry CHRISTmas. Boy that glacier looks
cold (He's referring to the picture of Kay &

Bill Erdman, WebMaster: This will be a very tough one
to write.
Nancy was a neighbor that I enjoyed great outdoor fun with.
I used to go to her house at every opportunity to play with her and
her friends in their back yard. One day she invited me in for
some lemonade and we started wrestling in the living room.
That was the day I realized that girls were different from boys!
Nancy felt different from the guys I used to wrestle with.
I was so unnerved that I went home early and never went back - Ah
for the naive days when we grew up. Kids today don't have
these earthquake type experiences anymore. They know too much
too soon!
Nancy, I've always wanted to talk with you to see if you remember
that momentous day - I'm sure you wouldn't have and I probably have been
too embarrassed to ask you. You are a special person to me.

Ohio, as well as family ski trips to Seven Springs and vacations to the shore.
Don was a graduate of Mt.
Lebanon High School, attended Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia and
graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in engineering. He
worked for a number of years for Trane Corporation in the HVAC field and
eventually owning his own business.
Don was a lifelong
resident of the Pittsburgh area and was an avid fan of all of the city's sports
teams. From the days of the Steelers playing in Pitt Stadium, the Pirates at
Forbes Field and the Pens in the "Igloo” you could find Don in the stands
with his children or grandchildren.
The family would like to thank
all of the wonderful, caring personnel of Kane Hospital, Scott Township, Celtic

Don
has had some strokes this year, one fairly massive that has paralyzed him

substitute teaching at Chartiers Valley HS. Mary Lou answers all
phone calls, the number is available
- just email Bill at email listed at the bottom of this page. I
talked to Don this morning who said it was OK to put the info about
his condition on our website. Tom

Don
doesn't have a home PC so there is no email between us. I'm not sure
if he's ever seen our website. Don moved to Mt. Lebanon
(Sunset Hills) from Wilkensburg during our senior year, hence no photo in
the Log. He went to Virginia Tech for two years and while there met
Mary Lou and got married. He ended up finishing at Pitt.
He and Mary Lou have 3 children, a son and 2 daughters. In
1966, when I moved back to Upper St. Clair, he lived 2 doors away. He
worked on our 20 and 25 th reunion committees. He's had a long career
in the heating and air conditioning business and is still working. He
and Mary Lou plan to attend the reunion so if you talk to him maybe
he can give you some "hot current" info. -

Don
can at least see he's alive. Yesterday I phoned his wife and she
admitted they aren't on the internet.
Don
had worked many years for Trane on commercial air conditioning. His

I just received my

your website it shows mom passed away in March of this year. It was
actually on July 17, 2001, when Jesus called her home. She was
diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away just 4 weeks later. Her
loving family and friends miss her terribly but rest in the assurance
that we will be reunited in our next life together.
Her family consists
of her wonderful husband, Jim; their 4 children (Jim Jr.,

Peggy McCarthy, still resides in Pittsburgh.

wrote about
Virginia Smalley's death and now
Pat McCarthy. To date we have 74
classmates that we don't have any record of them and 73 listed as
deceased! What a loss that we were never able to thank each of
them for whatever effect (good or bad) they had on our lives. Like
it or not, we were a group on the way to somewhere when we graduated.
Almost 55 years later we know just a little about the 245 kids we went
to high school with that are still alive. If we assume* that those
listed as "lost" are also deceased, 147 out of 379 known graduates are
dead - 39%. Over one third of us!
Yep.
It sounds morbid but unfortunately its true. Make today count and
call your spouse, kids, grandkids and tell them how much they mean to
you. Bill,

John
F. McCune
Washington, DC
May 9, 2007
John Foster "Jack"
McCune, 76, a popular history teacher and Upper School head at St. Albans
School who returned from retirement to serve as the school's headmaster in the
late 1990s, died of complications from leukemia May 9 at Sibley Memorial
Hospital.
During his three
decades at the upper Northwest academy for the sons of Washington's wealthy
and elite, Mr. McCune taught, coached football, basketball and tennis
and directed the history department, international seminars and summer
school. He was dean of faculty and head of college counseling at a
school that routinely sends more than a handful of its graduates to the Ivy
League.
Described by
colleagues as intelligent and graceful, he was dubbed "Gentleman Jack"
for the value he placed upon courtesy.
"Never, never
underestimate . . . the power of graciousness and simple politeness," he
told students at commencement. "Be ever gentle and caring, and you
cannot help but quit yourselves like men."
A colleague, Paul
Piazza, called him a mentor to a generation of teachers at the school whose
great gift was making people feel good.
"He was an
extraordinary teacher who was also one of the gentlest people I know,"
Piazza said. "He was able to draw the best out of everybody who met
him, and he called upon the best in the boys. He never talked down to
them -- he was always positive, always at the highest level, and I think the
boys responded to that."
He was held in such
regard by students that the senior class awards an annual prize to the
faculty member who best emulates Mr. McCune's demeanor.
He retired in 1995
after 14 years as head of the Upper School but was called back to work in
the summer of 1997, when headmaster Mark Mullin was ousted. Mr.
McCune served as the top school official until 1999, when he retired a
second time.
Born in Pittsburgh,
he graduated from Princeton University and served in the Army's Counter
Intelligence Corps in Baltimore and Stuttgart, Germany. After leaving
the service, he became a history teacher at the Choate School in
Wallingford, Conn. He received a master of arts degree in liberal
studies from Wesleyan University in 1966.
He arrived at St.
Albans that year and by 1970 was the Folger Chair in History. A 1991
Washington Post Magazine article about the school said Mr. McCune was
"known for a ferocious game of tennis, the world's neatest illegible
handwriting (locally called 'McCuneiform') and a perennial youthfulness."
Mr. McCune
also enjoyed hiking, sketching, reading and listening to classical and jazz
music. He tutored at the Garrison School after his second retirement
and taught English as a second language at Briggs Memorial Baptist Church in
Bethesda for the past five years.
He was the author of
the Washington National Cathedral's scholars program and taught art history
in Zermatt, Switzerland, in 1996. He served on the governing boards of
St. Albans, the National Cathedral School, St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School
in Alexandria and the Norwood School in Bethesda. He also was on the
College Board's advisory board for the mid-Atlantic states.
Mr. McCune
also was a member of the Chevy Chase Club.
Survivors include his
wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Reid McCune of Bethesda; two children,
John F. McCune Jr. of Bethesda and Rebecca Jewett of Washington;
a sister; and five grandchildren.
On Wednesday May 9,
2007 JOHN FOSTER McCUNE of Bethesda, MD died at Sibley Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of
Elizabeth Reid McCune. He is also survived by son John Foster
McCune, his wife Gretchen and their children Chloe,
Margaret and John Foster McCune, III; daughter Elizabeth
McCune Jewett, her husband T. Sanford Jewett and their children
Reid and Georgia. Also survived by his sister Joanne
Horton. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 11
a.m. at Washington National Cathedral. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to The John F. McCune '52 Scholarship Fund,

It certainly was sad news to hear about Jack's death. Jack
and I enlisted in the army together in the summer of 1952 for 3 years.
We went to infantry basic training at Indiantown Gap near Harrisburg and
then spent 14 months at the Counter Intelligence school outside Baltimore.
We learned how to be "counter spies" then spent 6 months in German language
school and 6 weeks in investigative photography and microfilming. Jack
and I made numerous weekend trips between Baltimore and Pittsburgh in my
1939 Chrysler! We then went to Germany and Jack was assigned
to Stuttgart and I to Berlin. I had a good time in my 3 year army

Hello all. I had to miss the last
reunion because of my wife's illness. She had been
diagnosed with lung cancer in February and was undergoing
chemo through the summer and by September the cancer had
spread . She died October 20 just one week before our 18th
anniversary. I didn't make a very good nurse but Hospice
was fantastic. Since we both had our properties in living
trusts, probate was not necessary and everything was settled
by New Years.
I
decided to sell our home as it was too big for me to rattle around in. I bought
a new place and by December of '14 I had moved into 560 Blue Ledge Cir.,
Lexington, SC 29072. My daughter and family are planning to come live with me
so the grands can graduate from a stateside high school. I am eagerly awaiting
their arrival. The paper work has been progress for over a year and a half and
still far from being completed. Edmundo is a French citizen so there
shouldn't be any hang up. Just the normal delays.
Some of
you may have heard about the flood in SC. Columbia in particular. I was not
affected directly. One watershed was very hard hit. It was where I used to
live although my house was on higher ground. This was land that had been
developed right after WWII. It was between Columbia and Fort Jackson. There
were four man made dams one after the other with very beautiful lakes with
beautiful homes on the shore lines and environs. We had around 18" of rain in
less than 24 hours. The dams were overstressed and one by one broke. Down
stream there is a natural bottleneck and the water got over 20' deep. I went
through the area a couple of weeks later and noticed that two buildings were
gone. There were several cars sitting in very unusual places deposited there by
the rushing waters. Damage estimates are well into 7 digits. I know two
families that lost everything.
The
good Lord willing and if the creek doesn''t rise I'll be in Pgh in 2018. Roy,
November 2015
My reunion status is
now questionable. Carole has lung cancer and is
undergoing chemo. It scheduled for completion by Aug 1 but
there's no telling now as to how she will feel then and
whether we can make the trip. I'm finding that the
older I get the more I have to remember and the less I do
remember. Where is a good place to stay now? ROY - May

November 2011 - Glad to hear from you. I’m just getting
a little older not wiser but maybe a little slower. I had
forgotten how to access our MtL web site. I’m waiting
patiently for our next reunion. Roy
April
2011- Hi Bob. How do you report news when not much
is happening? My eye problems have been
repaired and I can see well again. Detached retina and
cataract ops are history. Depth perception is lagging and
not 100% but close. I'm planning to go to Boone NC
next June as I have done for the last four years. We
work with homeworks org to repair homes of the elderly and
needy. Teens from our local churches do the work but
the adults do the planning and supervise. We
stay at an old monastery at Valle Crusis and use it as our

And we worked on 9 homes. See you in 13.

February 2007 - Several updates:
Bob Alderdice
(deceased):
I ran into him at Western Electric Cafeteria in New York City in early 1965.
He was a lawyer and had been a partner in a Cleveland firm but had to give
it up because of too much stress. He had taken a job with ATT in the
legal dept. He was handling easements and rights of way in the city.
We met several times over the next few months. When I hadn't heard
from him for several weeks, I called his office and got the news that he had
died. Whoever I talked to didn't know anything about him or wouldn't
give me any more info.

He was best man at my wedding in June 1954 at Arlington VA. He joined
the army shortly after graduation and was a radio operator. He spent a
lot of time at Ft Knox and then in the Pacific. Returning he
went to Pitt and got a degree in Transportation. He lived in Fairfax,
VA. for several years. We exchanged Christmas cards and one year mine
was returned as "unknown" I believe his brother Andy still
lives in Mt L on Ashland Ave.-or used to.
I'm looking forward to 2008. ROY
June 2006 -
Just a note to let you know I'm still kicking.
Last Mar I spent a week working for HomeWorks in Covington La
HomeWorks is a charitable org that repairs homes of the elderly with limited
resources. Katrina had done a job on this town too. In early
June we went to Boone NC area also. We had a lot of teenagers doing
the work but they needed instruction and supervision. We had a lot of
fun.

isn't much of anything new with me. Getting ready for Christmas and trying
to keep warm. We've been to Myrtle Beach several times in the last
two weeks getting our Condo ready for the next years rentals. Some of my
cousins are thinking of meeting in Pgh next summer. We've been actively
building a family tree. We've gotten back to 1730. So far we
have over 900 names in ten generations. The eleventh generations will soon
be here. Not my family though. My grandchildren are 16, 6 and 3 and
they live in French Guiana South America. I haven't visited them
for four years so maybe next spring. It's over 3000 mi and takes two
days. It can be quite an ordeal. Air France folks won't admit to knowing
any English and its not easy to communicate. ROY

We've been traveling a lot lately.
Got back from Europe the 29th of June and went to Nashville on the 3rd of
July, 2001.
We attended the International
Supreme Assembly of the Order of the Amaranth. This is a Masonic
organization which is social fraternal and charitable for Masons and their
female relatives. We had a lot of fun meeting old friends and talking over
old times.
I retired from AT&T, now Lucent

accounting and was a Certified Internal Auditor.

Last
heard from Clare with this 1999 note below -
Reluctantly assume she is deceased after 18 years without
news
September 1999: After reading the letter from
Pat Ward
(deceased) I decided to send a short
one myself. I have often wondered what happened to some of my child
hood friends.
Pat and I went to St. Bernard's
grade school together and only lived a block apart. So it was great to
hear what she had been doing for the last fifty years.
I graduated from Carnegie Tech with a degree in Industrial Design and was
married shortly after I started to work in Pittsburgh. My husband is a
metallurgist and a Tech grad also.
We moved from Pittsburgh to Detroit and ended up for the last thirty years
in Fredonia, NY. We have raised six great kids. Three boys and
three girls.
I always liked school and it seems our kids did also. In total they
have eight bachelors degrees, nine masters, and two doctors degrees.
Since they live in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan we spend a
lot of time visiting our children and grandchildren.
After the kids were all in school I taught GED, English as a second
language, and basic literacy for almost twenty years. When my husband
retired I retired also so that we could travel.
It is hard to believe that I am way too close to 70, but time does fly when
your having fun!! -

Casey, apparently from liver complications associated with Hepatitis
C. Roseanne and I go way back to Junior High days when she
moved to Colony Circle, two houses away from me. Her death brings
back many memories of good times together including her being a brides
maid in our wedding 53 years ago. When I last saw Roseanne
2 years ago at a small gathering of "old" '48 friends, she seemed fine --
just as witty and enthusiastic as ever. That's how I'll always
remember her.
From
Bill Erdman, WebMaster: A very pleasant e-mail from
Barbara Adams
(deceased)
brought sad news about Rosanne. As Barbara
prophetically noted in 2002, "...my procrastination (about writing about
myself) came from feeling that I have little of substance to report..."
I know we all have accomplished much in our lifetimes and procrastinate.
But I also regret that little of substance has been reported about
Rosanne except Barbara's friendship over the years.
Again, it is so sad that we know so little about each other and then
when I move an individual's "history" to the "Gone" page,
nothing more is ever added. We are sad but life goes on and we
will soon forget her along with the 139 other classmates that have
preceded her (78 known deceased, 62 lost & presumed dead) .
Rosanna's "dash" is over (1930 - 2005 which reads "1930
DASH 2005") and all of her classmates reading this will join her in
a few years. "Few" doesn't seem like a lot, does it?
Enjoy today and tell everyone dear to you that you truly love them.
Don't wait. Bill,

May, 2003: I received the invitation to the Reunion in today's
mail and began reviewing the excellent web site this evening. The web
site has asked if I am
Jay McRoberts.
Roy
was my cousin and my childhood best friend. He died about 20 years
ago.
Most of you do not know me for a number of reasons. I was
painfully shy and had a mild speech defect during my high school days.
Obviously this made it very difficult for me to socialize.
In addition, I completed the three-year curriculum in two years and did not
have the pleasure of a senior year.
Life has been very kind to me and my bride (Edie) of 50 years.
I retired from orthopedic surgery 10 years ago and became a full-time tree
farmer (large, landscape quality stock). We have a 330 acre farm
20 miles northwest of Washington D.C.
I don't know if I'm in the class of a 47 or of 48. I guess it's
48 and I played hooky for the last year. Jay Warren McRoberts

Deceased: DAVID MILLER
Age 80, of Erie, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at his
residence following a brief illness. David was
born in Pittsburgh January 14, 1930, a son of the late
Richard and Edna Phillips Miller. He
graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh and
Washington- Jefferson College in Washington, PA.
David served in the Second Army Division including a
tour of duty in Korea. He enjoyed sailing, loved
music and travelled extensively. He worked in sales
for Amerial Systems in Erie and retired in 2006. In
addition to his parents, David was preceded in death
by a sister Shirley. He is survived by two
daughters: Laura Miller of Pittsburgh and Mary
Brooks and her husband Paul Rathke of Knoxville,
TN. Also, he is survived by three grandchildren:
Emily Carter Brooks, Jackson Connor Brooks and
Melissa Carrington Brooks. David is also
survived by his beloved companion Nancy Morgan.
Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to NAMI or
Presque Isle Partnership.
Nancy Morgan's Son-in-law. Bill Cambell added
this additional information: Dave
was the executive vice president for Sterling Factories and
operations manager at Amerial Systems in Erie and retired in
2006. David is also survived by his beloved
companion, Nancy Morgan in Erie PA, whom he spent the
last years of his life with. Reverend
Jerry Goddard
(deceased)
officiated the memorial service and
Bud Keen
spoke at the service. Both are graduates of Mt. Lebanon High
School class of 1948. My relationship to Dave
is I am Nancy Morgan's Son-in-law. I knew
Dave for a short four years, but it was long enough that
I will remember him forever as will my wife and son.
He was a very true individual and one of the greatest people
I have had the privilege of knowing. We would be lucky
if there were more David Millers on the earth.
I am sorry to be the deliverer of the sad news.
Peace Be With You. Bill Campbell
From
Bill Erdman, WebMaster: Another loss for our class.
Dave was a well known guy in High School and had lots of friends - I
consider myself fortunate that I was one of those although I lost track
of him after graduation. We saw him at the 5oth and 60th Reunions
but didn't have time to get information for his page. Sadly, I
learned more about Dave from his obituary than from any
correspondence so there isn't much to show for his history.

Took 9 yrs to work my way out of that. Sold out in 1982. Took a

rather build than sell, that was mistake no. 4001. Trying to build
