Dad (Dick Davis), died
in mid September. It was very sudden, but he was at home, comfortable and
with family. He just went into respiratory distress, slipped into a coma
and passed away, all within about 24 hours. Grandma is 103 and doing great
at Fair Oaks assisted living out in Dormont. Dad always enjoyed hearing
from you! Hope your holiday is wonderful. Will be a bit tough for us, but
we all know dad didn't like being in a diminished state, and he is in a
better place now. Take care, Bev (daughter) December 2014

I had occasion to fly to L.A. a couple weeks ago on business, and spent an
overnight with Dick Davis.
He is retired now
from his medical practice and lives in a beautiful home with his daughter
Beverly in Claremont. Dick and I sort of grew up together and
were fraternity brothers at Pitt. We had a great visit.
Bob Woeber (deceased) writes in June, 2005: Dick was in Pittsburgh last

a nice visit before he went back. He seems to be in good health.

Jad
had a slight stroke in April of

very well.
Bill
From
Bill Erdman, WebMaster: As Jad and I went on to college
at Lehigh together I was fortunate to to be able to interact with him longer
than just High School. Jad was just as outgoing and pleasant at
Lehigh. Over the year I was able to talk with him occasionally and see
him at the 45th Reunion. In High School he was nicknamed, "Twinkle
Toes", for his running style. Guys laughed at his small steps but no
one could catch him!
It was
my pleasure to talk with Kathleen
a week after his death and to meet his son, James. That was a
very moving experience - Looking at James W was like jumping back 60
years and looking at Jad again! The resemblance was
breathtaking.

Information received February 1, 2018 from an unknown individual assumed

info on Nancy. We had nine children, we lost the last early.
Then 23 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Nancy as
you'll remember was beautiful and a outstandingly caring person. She
was a great, great mother and her kids show it. She loved being a
mother and. created a loving warm and secure life for her kids. At our
gatherings she is always with us.
Follow up after asking who the "Unknown Source" was:
This is Jerry Scherer, her husband. We lost her much too soon,
she died in 1997. I was in the class of 47 and arranged our reunions
I am impressed with your site. Note:
Joy Ostergard was married to Bob Hunter from our

Per e-mail from
Mary, Sally
died Sunday evening the 7th of January, 2007
E-mail from
Bob Woeber (deceased) just after this was published: Bill,
there has been a missed communication re Sally Fellows O'Connor.
Her death was reported prematurely. She is comatose and not
expected to live, but as of this morning (January 6th), she had not
died. She collapsed at dinner with her family on New Years day,
and has been in a coma ever since. I, like
Mary Hardy, had been told that she had died..
Later on we got a correction. As far as I know at this moment, she
is still hanging in there. Bob.
E-mail from
Mary Murrie Hardy, January 5th, 2007:
Dear Bill, Just wanted to let
you know that Sally (Fellows) O'Conner died today after suffering
a massive heart attack on New Years day. She never was conscious,
and was in a coma for 4 days. She was always the happiest person
and it was a pleasure to be around her.
We had a lunch on December 23rd of a few of
the class of 48, and I sat next to her, and we had such a nice time
chatting. There were about 12 or so at the lunch,

From
Bill Erdman, WebMaster, 1/5/07: Did you ever have a time
when you wished you had never started some thing? Today is one of
those times - I'm sorry I started this web site because death notices
bring me personal trauma as I move a living memory from the list of the
living to the list of those I will not see again on this earth.
Mary's e-mail about Sally depressed me quite a bit.
It is so sad to loose someone you knew and respected long ago and even
more sad when you look at all the "news" the web site received about her
over the last 59 years. The "12 or so" mentioned by
Mary
all knew her and watched her grow and mature over the years but those
that moved away have missed knowing her. It is our loss and in
some ways it is Sally's loss also that no one, including Sally,
had taken the time to tell us about her life - All we are left with is 4
black and whites and 3 colored pictures.
However, I will always remember Sally
as an attractive girl with a ready smile and a pleasant disposition.
Goodbye Sally, rest well.

FLEISCHAUER RICHARD "DICK"
Died at
his home in Bethel Park, on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, four months after the death
of his wife, Joan (Fallon) Fleischauer. He was 84. Dick was born
to the late Fred and Katherine Fleischauer in 1930. He
grew up with three truly unique brothers, Jack, Bob and Bill
Fleischauer.
After
graduating from Mt. Lebanon High School, he joined the Air Force and moved to
California. He wrote love letters to his sweetheart, Joan, who was back
in Pittsburgh, and married her in 1951. The couple later settled in Mt. Lebanon
and raised three children.
After
his time in the service, Dick worked hard as a sales engineer, but he
made sure to have fun, too. Armed with a toothy grin and an arsenal of sarcasm,
he knew how to make people laugh, even in the most unlikely circumstances. He
and Joan always made people feel welcome in their home, offering them
food and drink the moment their feet crossed the threshold, and sometimes even
sooner.
He
passed his compassion, hospitality, and sense of humor on to his grateful
children and grandchildren. Dick leaves his son, Rick Fleischauer
(Cassie) of Rockwood; daughters, Kathy Comer (Jim)
of McMurray, and Jane McCarty (John) of Brookline; eight
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please send
donations to the Central Blood Bank in Pittsburgh.

Received an email from Mary
Payne's daughter, Christine:
Hello,
I'm the daughter of Mary Payne Furlong, Class of 1948 at Mt. Lebanon
High. My mother kept photos of her classmates that I assume were given to her
around graduation. Sometimes the photos are the same as the one in the
yearbook, and sometimes they aren't. The yearbook is tough to follow
because the names aren't associated with the photos, so your website has been a
tremendous help. I'm trying to find their families so the photos don't end
up in the trash!
I'm
hoping you could help me with the attached photo. The note is signed
"Dottie". I thought it might be
Dorothea Nill,
but the photo I have is different from the one in the yearbook. I was able to
contact Dorothea's daughter, who told me this is not her mother. I'm stumped,
as I don't see anyone else in the class who might have been called "Dottie".
Please let me know if you can do anything to help.
Thank
you, Christine Roberts. May 2023
My answer to Christine:
Sorry. I do not recognize the person in the photo but I noticed in the
handwriting next to the image that she was from the Class of '47. This
indicates she was a year ahead of us. Hopefully someone will read this and
give us some more information. I will forward to you if I receive any
news.
Bill.
Mary
Payne Goodenough NEWTOWN, PA
Mary
Payne Furlong (Goodenough) died peacefully at home in Newtown, PA, on
Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at age 83. She was born in Floral Park, NY, on Feb. 4,
1931, the first child of Norman Furlong and Viola Vitzthum. Mary
Payne married Donald Goodenough in Pittsburgh, PA, on June 14, 1952,
where they were both students at the University of Pittsburgh. Her fondest
memories of her childhood in Pittsburgh were weekends and summers spent on the
Furlong family farm in nearby Finleyville with her beloved grandparents,
James W. and Mary (Payne) Furlong.
She
continued to enjoy nature, gardening, animals and the outdoors throughout her
life. When Mary Payne discovered her gift for tennis in her late 30s,
she quickly rose to the professional level, and coached at Rider University as
well as at local tennis centers, including the Princeton Racquet Club and the
Hopewell Valley Tennis Center. Tennis was her passion, and provided a rich
social life as well.
More
important than anything else in her life were her roles as wife, mother and
grandmother. She provided her children with an idyllic childhood in a family
filled with love. Mary Payne gave her grandchildren fond memories of
truly magical Christmases and delicious apple pies.
Her
friends and family would all describe her as an exceptionally strong woman with
a quick wit who would leave everyone in stitches when they least expected it.
She was
predeceased by her son, David Goodenough, in 1954; her husband, Donald
Goodenough, in 2003; her son, James Goodenough, in 2005; her sister,
Arden Furlong, in 2007, and her son, Charles Goodenough, in 2013.
She is
survived by a daughter, Christine Roberts; four grandchildren: Caitlin
Roberts, Kyle Roberts, Alexandra Goodenough, and August
Goodenough; a brother, James W. Furlong, and a sister, Ann F.
Cummings.
In lieu
of flowers, contributions be made to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Mary
Payne, Newtown, PA, writes: Last time I checked all is
well here, just up the road from Washington Crossing. My
daughter and grandson are neighbors, cats and dogs are
tenants, life is good. I would enjoy hearing from any of my
classmates. I am delighted to see that so many of us are
still viable!! November 2011
Hello,
Bill.
How very nice to hear from you. My gosh, my own
children don't always answer my e-mails as quickly! I love
your idea of bicycling your way to MtL., it beats flying,
for sure.
To answer
your questions, Newtown, Pa. abuts to Washington Crossing.
I live just up the road from where George Washington camped
his troops before they made that famous crossing of the
Delaware River on their way to execute their surprise attack
and win the battle of Trenton, N.J. We have spent many New
Years days watching the annual re-enactment of that
crossing.
Re' travel to
Fla., I have not been there in a few years, it's unlikely I
will go again. I had many wonderful visits in Fla. My
sister, Ann Cummings, lives in West Palm. My sister,
Arden Cristie, lived in Sarasota. Arden died
last Nov.
I have
enjoyed reading your postings. Your life with
Kay sounds happy and loving, all
of it is about family, there is nothing better.
I will make
an attempt at writing an update, 60 yrs. is a daunting task.
I think I might take your suggestion and treat it as if it
were 20. I do prefer the idea of writing an update instead
of a biography.
Enjoy the
rest of your trip! Best regards,
Mary Payne - August 2008
August 2008 - Thanks to

making the effort to find me. My best to all,
Mary Payne
