If It Was Not For The Cross

Scripture: 1 Peter 2:24 (NASB 1995) – “and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.”

Message: The holidays were rough on me.  While feeling overwhelmed, being sick and overworked didn’t help.  When that happens, I quiet my mind and uplift my spirits through worship.  As more work kept piling up, I heard the song “Hallelujah for the Cross” by Chris McClarney.

Listening to the beautiful lyrics, a sense of relief flooded my body and excited my soul.  Then, I began to wonder… “What would have happened if Jesus didn’t die on the cross?”  “Where would I be?” 1 Peter 2:24 (NASB 1995)

Based on earthly knowledge, answers could easily go all over the place, however, if we focus on a few key Biblical elements about the miracle of the Cross we find that:

Without the Cross, there is NO adequate sacrifice for our sins.  Galatians 2:20 (NIV) - “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Without the Cross, there is NO salvation for humanity.  Romans 3:23-24 (NIV) – “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

Without the Cross, there is NO forgiveness for us.  Ephesians 1:7 (NIV) – “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace”

Without the Cross, there is NO Good News to share.  2 Corinthians 5:21 (ESV) – “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

Jesus died on the Cross, shed His blood so that we are set free.  And like Paul in Romans 7:25a (NIV), I join in saying: “Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!”

Consider how the miracle of the Cross has changed you?  Don’t just acknowledge it, Celebrate it!

Prayer: God, help us to understand the value of the Cross and rejoice in it.  Thank You for showing us love, mercy and grace through Jesus Christ.  Amen.

No sólo reconócelo ¡celébralo!
