Fall 2012

Pat Moran (now deceased):

Hola,'52ers, in early November 2011, your correspondent, normally a moderately fit, seasoned citizen, contracted bacterial pneumonia and nearly died on Nov. 17.  To go from pretty good health, to really awful health in such a short span was realty gut wrenching.  After I survived, I underwent a procedure that scraped my right lung.  It was very painful, but better than being dead.  The good news is that I’m recuperating (albeit at a very slow rate) and I will be back between 80 to 90 percent of normal by the fall of 2012.

Now to much lighter news, that of the class.  Bill Murray (deceased), of Sugar Land, Texas, and I have had some delightful correspondence‑snail mail, e‑mail, and phone‑reminiscing and also current day stuff.  As far as I can tell, Bill is still active in the pump business.

A newsy Christmas e‑mail arrived from Dick Schmidt (deceased), my Arizona "neighbor.”   Dick and Carolyn are busy, with Dick driving for Enterprise, and Carolyn painting (in oil).  They have traveled "back East" to see friends and their extended families in Maine, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.  On the way, they touched base with Dotsie and Pete Shaw (deceased), and Don Moodie (Deceased), Dick's D.U. fraternity brothers.

I received an e‑mail from Richard Barba, who said "I've always been proud of Lehigh and it stood me in good stead in my work."

A truly exceptional resume arrived from John Puth.  He relates a 60‑year marriage to Betsey, three children, and five grandchildren.  He owns three homes and has served on 26 corporate boards in the private equity field.  Congratulations, John, you've lived the American dream.

This is indeed the golden era of Lehigh sports.  Patriot League champions in both football and basketball!  Lehigh then pulled the upset of the year in defeating Duke in the N.C.A.A. playoffs and is number 7 in the country in lacrosse, women are excelling in basketball and softball, and wrestling always near the top Golden era, indeed!

That's it for this edition.  Good luck and keep those e‑mails and letters coming.  The class wants to hear from YOU.
