Summer 2001 Class Column
Pat Moran
(now
deceased):
Christmas 2000 brought much joy
and activity, particularly with regard to the class. Mary Jo and
Jim Johnston
(deceased) sent a card mentioning the Beta's reunion in Sarasota and
trips to Phoenix, San Diego and Las Vegas. These folks do not sit still! Evelyn
and
Allen Levan sent a newsletter outlining
their activities including hospital volunteering and church fellowship.
The best card, year in and year out, comes from Betsey and
Mayo Snyder(deceased) always a picture card, of their happy faces from somewhere in the
world - this year from Ellis Island. Thanks; you guys look great!
Toward the latter part of 2000,
the Morans played host to Sue Ann and
Ralph
Fortney and Carolyn and
Dick Schmidt
(deceased).
It was fun to share our warm weather with Sue Ann and Ralph who
have had a mean winter back in Delaware. Carolyn and Daz did
some aromatherapy while Dick and I hiked in Sabino Canyon. Be sure
and read the short bio on
Ralph Fortney
-
It was part of the Lehigh University Alumni Association nominees list.
In a recent edition of At
Lehigh, there were two "Letters to the Editor," both by '52ers.
Noah
Kretsch, living in Ireland for the past 26 years, wrote to defend Irish
cuisine.
Stan
Gedney (deceased) III defended the
ranking of the 1950 undefeated football team as No. I in the school's
history. Speak up and be heard, classmates!
A heartfelt letter arrived from Nancy
Hanby, widow of
Ken Hanby. Ken
passed away December 2, 2000, after a long battle with cancer. To quote Nancy's
letter, "It was a long, hard journey, but one that Ken took with
bravery and grace. I was privileged to be on board with him as his wife of
more than 42 years. In 1976, Ken followed a call from God to enter
the Christian ministry. He was ordained in 1980 and accepted a call to
become pastor of Riverview Park Christian Church in St. Joseph, Mich. Ken
was ever a student, a seeker of truth, and engaged in a journey of searching for
God's will in his life. He has completed the journey and now rests in joy
and peace." Ken was truly a remarkable man, and the class
sends its condolences to Nancy.
