Winter 2010
Pat Moran
(now deceased):
Hola!
classmates, greetings from Arizona.
Dick Schmidt
(deceased), my Arizona neighbor and best
contributor of late, sent along news that he and Carolyn returned to
campus in October for the 60" reunion of the 1950 undefeated football team. Barb
Smith, widow of
Bill Smith
(deceased),
called in September to say that she also was going to the football reunion to
honor
Bill's
membership in the 1950 team. Daz and I have invited Barb to spend
some time with us here in Tucson at the end of the year. In August,
Dick and Carolyn spent a week visiting
Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. In a well‑written and detailed
e‑mail, Dick waxed poetic about spectacular
mountain scenery, rivers, lakes, buffalo, and black bears. They made side trips
to Cody, Wyo., and the Buffalo Bill Museum, and to the Custer Battlefield at
Little Big Horn. Daz and I have traveled in Wyoming, and it is surely a
glorious part of our country.
Bob Flynn
(deceased) wanted to let the class know that his
beloved Anne passed away on May 18th. To quote
Bob, "That's exactly 55 years and 8 months from
the day we married. She struggled with health issues for most of two years, but
remained active and lively for most of that time. The end came swiftly and she
died pain free and at peace in the St. Luke's Hospice in Bethlehem. Anne
earned her master's degree in education at Lehigh in 1974, and was a dedicated
fan of Lehigh football and tailgating. As for me, acceptance is coming slowly,
but I have untiring support from my four adult children and many fine Lehigh
people, most especially our own Janet Tucker '85G."
Just before
deadline, we learned that
Frank Sgambelluri
died. Barbara
called to say that Frank passed away in late September of pancreatic
cancer. Frank knew of his illness for only a short time and did not
suffer. Frank and Barbara were guests of ours twice here in
Tucson, and we got to know Frank as a physically and intellectually
strong man who was very proud of his Italian heritage. Frank was a
tireless class agent and reunion committee chair. His pride and joy was our 50th
Reunion Yearbook. The class will miss Frank, and we send our
condolences to Barbara and family.
The mailbag
is pretty thin this quarter. Your e‑mails, phone calls and letters are most
welcome. Drop me a line or give me a call with your news of travel and family
happenings.
Looking
forward to hearing from you!
