Scripture: Philippians 2:6-8 (NKJV) – “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”

Message: Watching “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” caused me to reflect on the conditions into which Jesus was born. I realized that Jesus started His earthly life on wood and also left it on wood.  Wow!  How crazy!  I had never seen it this way.  The manger already announced the cross, and the cross is the result of the manger.

Just as Isaiah prophesied, the baby Jesus, weak and defenseless, was born in absolute poverty and loneliness in the humility of a wooden manger, intended for animals.  Likewise, the man Jesus lived humbly, in poverty and loneliness.  He died, weak and defenseless on a wooden cross intended for criminals; all this for you and me.

“Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness by whose stripes you were healed.” 1 Peter 2:24 (NKJV)

Often we get wrapped up in the celebrations of Christmas and Easter, forgetting the real reason why God sent His only Son to be born in a manger, to live a life full of difficulties, to die on a cross and rise on the third day.  The manger birth is inseparable from what happened at Calvary.  May our Easter celebration and joy serve as a reminder of our sinful nature and how much we need God.

Friends, God invites us to know His Son, not only in His birth, but in His death on the cross and in His resurrection.  God does not want us to remain strangers to the salvation He offers through His Son Jesus Christ.  God desires us to live our lives in repentance, He forgives our sins and offers salvation.  Never let us forget the connection between the manger and the cross.  Jesus is God's gift of salvation to the world!

Prayer: Lord, open our hearts in this Lenten season to understand the reason for Your coming, Your sacrifice, and to repent so that we may participate in the salvation and eternal life that You freely offer us.  Amen.

Dos Veces En el Madero: La Relación entre el Pesebre y la Cruz

Escritura: Filipenses 2:6-8 (RVA-2015) - “Existiendo en forma de Dios, él no consideró el ser igual a Dios como algo a qué aferrarse, sino que se despojó a sí mismo tomando forma de siervo, haciéndose semejante a los hombres.  Y hallándose en forma de hombre, se humilló a sí mismo, haciéndose obediente hasta la muerte, y muerte de cruz.”

Mensaje: Ver la película “El Mejor Espectáculo Navideño de la Historia” me hizo reflexionar sobre las condiciones en las que Jesús nació.  Me di cuenta de que Jesús comenzó su vida terrenal sobre un madero y también la dejó sobre un madero.  ¡Vaya!  ¡Qué locura!  Nunca lo había visto de esta manera.  El pesebre ya anunciaba la cruz, y la cruz es el resultado del pesebre.

Tal como profetizó Isaías, Jesús niño, débil e indefenso, nació en la más absoluta pobreza y soledad en la humildad de un pesebre de madera, destinado para animales.  Así también Jesús hombre, vivió humildemente, en la pobreza y la soledad.  Murió débil e indefenso en una cruz de madera destinada para criminales; todo esto por ti y por mí.

Él mismo llevó nuestros pecados en su cuerpo sobre el madero a fin de que nosotros, habiendo muerto para los pecados, vivamos para la justicia.  Por sus heridas ustedes han sido sanados. 1 Pedro 2:24 (RVA-2015)

Muchas veces nos envolvemos celebrando Navidad y Semana Santa, olvidando la verdadera razón por la cual Dios envió a su único Hijo a nacer en un pesebre, a vivir una vida difícil, para morir en la cruz y resucitar al tercer día.  El nacimiento del pesebre es inseparable del suceso del Calvario.  Que la celebración y alegría de Resurrección nos sirvan de recordatorio de cuan pecadores somos y lo necesitados que estamos de Dios.

Amigos, Dios nos invita a conocer a su Hijo, no sólo en su nacimiento, sino en su muerte y resurrección.  Dios no quiere que permanezcamos ajenos a la salvación que Él ofrece a través de su Hijo Jesucristo.  Dios desea que entreguemos nuestras vidas en arrepentimiento, para perdonar nuestros pecados y salvarnos.  Nunca olvidemos la conexión del pesebre con la cruz. ¡Jesús es el regalo de salvación de Dios para el mundo!
