		Carole Ann Cook Obituary

Mrs. Carole Ann Cook (Metz -
Grand) 82, passed at the home of her son Marty Grand in
Manassas Park, VA, Monday, Jan. 8, 2018

She was the mother of five sons, the Grands:  Warren,
Mark (deceased), Stewart, Marty and Jeff.  Carole
also had nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Carole was
one of four daughters or Edwin and Ellen Metz.  The family
moved to Greendale from Nebraska at the start of World War II.  Carole
attended Greendale Grade School, Lawrenceburg High School and graduated
from Indiana University with bachelor of science degrees in criminology
and psychology.  Likewise, her sisters, Gail. Nancy, and
Jean, all graduated from IU with degrees in education.

Carole leaves behind a legacy of what can
be achieved with hard work, dedication and the necessity to raise a
family on your own.  Her devotion to her sons and their respect and love
for her made the family a pillar of admiration around the community of
Manassas.  She had several positions in the juvenile justice field and
often worked extra jobs to provide for the family.  For many years she
was a juvenile probation officer and intake supervisor for Prince
William County, until her retirement in 2000.  Carole raised her
children to always respect others and never give up no matter how
difficult life can be.  She had a great sense of humor and calmness
about her that always put people around her at ease.

In 2012, an old classmate from grade school and
high school contacted her when she didn't show up for her 50-year
reunion, that led to their marriage on her birthday in 2003.  Carole
		then became the wife of
		Augustus Cook.
They resided in Acworth, GA, on a lake until she made the recent visit
to her son's home for the holidays.

Her laughter, warmth, and caring nature will he
truly missed by all who knew her.  She defined the term “Mother" and
will live forever in our hearts.  Her life was celebrated in Manassas,
		VA.

		Gus Cook,
Carole’s husband, wrote from Acworth, GA:
Carole passed on January 8, 2018.  She had several instances of
pneumonia following a 2014 surgery that left her in intensive care for
31 days.  We had a wonderful life together before that incident

		Gus
and I are retired, living in Georgia on a 30 acre lake north of
Marrietta.   If you drive up I-75 north of Atlanta, we are only a
		short distance off the highway.

		Graduates, March 2015

I married a young man from Gary, Indiana that I met at school after I graduated from Indiana University.  We had five sons.  We moved to California and then to Virginia.  I was divorced about 11 years later and never remarried.
I was fortunate enough to get a job as a Juvenile Probation Officer with the state court system here in Virginia and worked there for 28 years until I retired 01/01/00.  I loved my job but wanted to sleep late for a while.
At this time I have 7 grandchildren; the youngest is three days old and the oldest is 14 years old.  One son lives in NJ with his family, two live in Maryland with their families, and 2 live here in Manassas, Va.  I have been blessed with the chore of baby-sitting three grandchildren ages 11, 8, and 6.  They keep me moving.  I get to go swimming, play miniature golf, go bowling and watch the Disney channel on TV and call it work!  I love it.  Although I have emphysema, I feel really good, it just slows me down a bit.   I have been truly blessed!

of Lawrenceburg, IN at the age of 87 years at Shady Nook Care Center.
		She will be lovingly
remembered and dearly missed by her brother, Michael (Vera) of Osoyoos,
BC, Canada, niece, Kathleen; nephew, Marc (Emily); great-nephew, Lee and
great-niece, Silvie of Toronto, ON, Canada and cousins, Rollin (Marlene)
Manford, Gary Manford, Douglas (Carolyn) Manford, Stephen (Sue) Manford,
Patrick Ryan and god-child, Michelle Fries.
		Mary Ann was
preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Marguerite and two infant
brothers, John Edward and Sonny as well as her cousin Jim Ryan.  She
graduated from St. Lawrence School and Lawrenceburg Consolidated High
School and was a life-long member of St. Lawrence Parish.  Mary Ann
worked for 45 years at Greendale Utility where she rose to be Office
		Manager.
		Mary Ann excelled in school
and found her artistic talent through high school art classes.  She
worked in various media:  charcoal, pen & ink and oil. She was extremely
active in her parish church community in Religious Education, as a
member of the Legion of Mary and as Liturgical Coordinator as well as
serving as a regular lector and Eucharistic Minister.
		Coffee with friends after
morning Mass and a standing reservation at Whisky's for dinner following
Saturday evening Mass were regular pleasures for Mary Ann.  She
also loved music and drama and held season's tickets at the Playhouse in
		Cincinnati.
		Mary Ann returned to
college in 1981 to obtain her B.A. degree as a mature student at Mount
St. Joseph on the Ohio.  After 6 1/2 years of attending weekend and
night classes, she graduated magna cum laude with her bachelor's degree
		in Liberal Arts and Psychology.
		Travel brought her great
pleasure, especially trips to the North Carolina seashore.  Perhaps her
most  memorable trips were to Ireland, Scotland and England with four
friends in 1972 and to Einsiedeln, Switzerland in 2003.

		In 2013,
after a fall, Mary Ann moved from her home in Greendale to Pine
Knoll Assisted Living Center where she spent four contented years in the
company of a number of friends and fellow parishioners.  In 2018, she
moved to Shady Nook Care Center where she could receive more appropriate
		care.

I graduated from the College of Mount St. Joseph in May 1987.   I retired six and a half years ago from Greendale Utilities where I was office manager and bookkeeper.  I am planning to move soon to 25 Cook Avenue in Greendale, as we have a sale pending on the home I have lived in since I was three years old.  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion.

      Dear  Family and Friends,

Dan gave up the good fight at 12:50 this morning, December 9, 2005.
We were able to keep him at home which was his wish, and he was
surrounded by loving family.   It was a peaceful journey, and we thank God
that his suffering is ended.   We will miss him more than words can say,
but we all realize he is in the very best place possible.

Our family thanks you for your concerns, cards, calls, prayers, etc.
You will never know how you lifted our spirits in some very dark times.
      With Love,  Kay

    10/20/2001:

    Carol,
    I
    don't
    remember
    exactly
    who
    you
    are,
    but
    do
    recognize
    the
    address
    in
    Greendale.
    I,
    too
    have
    not
    attended
    past
    reunions
    due
    to
    college
    and
    a
    subsequent
    21
    year
    career
    in
    the
    Army.

    I
    retired
    and
    decided
    to
    settle
    in
    Texas
    as
    it
    is
    less
    cold
    than
    in
    Indiana.
    I
    have
    often
    thought
    back
    to
    the
    size
    of
    our
    graduating
    class
    as
    opposed
    to
    ones
    today.

    The
    reason
    I
    can't
    make
    it
    is
    my
    health
    doesn't
    permit
    me
    to
    travel
    very
    easy
    anymore.
    I
    have
    what
    they
    call
    C.O.P.D.
    which
    is
    a
    lung
    disease
    which
    is
    a
    combination
    of
    bronchitis
    and
    emphysema
    from
    smoking
    too
    much
    in
    my
    earlier
    years.
    I
    am
    on
    oxygen
    about
    16
    hours
    a
    day
    and
    when
    I'm
    not,
    I
    have
    it
    with
    me
    all
    the
    time.

    I
    ride
    around
    in
    a
    motorized
    wheel
    chair
    because
    of
    the
    shortness
    of
    breath
    when
    I
    walk
    too
    much.
    Hence,
    with
    all
    the
    breathing
    treatments
    I
    have
    to
    take
    and
    the
    oxygen
    and
    all,
    it's
    like
    getting
    a
    dog
    and
    pony
    show
    together
    to
    travel.
    And
    then
    too,
    the
    airlines
    requires
    special
    arrangements
    if
    you
    are
    on
    oxygen.
    They
    have
    to
    provide
    it,
    you
    can't
    use
    your
    own.
    All
    this
    since
    the
    Valu-Jet
    crash
    incident.

    Enough
    of
    this
    rambling,
    I
    told

    Shirley
    to
    send
    me
    the
    e-mail
    addresses
    of
    other
    class
    members
    who
    had
    them.
    Almost
    forgot,
    I
    did
    marry,
    have
    two
    boys
    and
    a
    daughter
    and
    six
    grandchildren.
    Two
    of
    the
    grandchildren
    graduated
    from
    high
    school
    this
    year,
    so
    could
    have
    great
    grandchildren
    any
    time
    although
    I
    hope
    not.

    Would
    love
    to
    see
    them
    get
    their
    education
    first.
    Good
    to
    hear
    from
    you,

    Gene.

    Gene

    is
    in
    Texas
    and
    can't
    come

    reasons,

    would
    like
    to

		GEORGE WEAMIRE

I to manhood am so arrived so neat'.
      Biology 1; Latin Choir 1.
		George
Howard Weamire was born to Louis Albiga Weamire and Antoinette Elenore
Schwarz on June 24, 1934, in Aurora, Indiana and passed away February
15, 2024 at home in Friend, Nebraska at the age of 89 years 7 months and
22 days. He was the oldest child with a younger sister Carolyn Ann and
		younger brother Paul Elmer.
		George
grew up in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. He attended St. Lawrence Catholic
School for grades 1-8 and graduated high school from Lawrenceburg
Consolidated High School in May 1952. After high school he worked at the
local sawmill and electric plant. He made the decision to join the Air
Force in 1953. He served until 1957. After being home for a year, he
reenlisted and made the Air Force his career, retiring in April 1980. In
his 26 years in the Air Force, he saw much of the world: England, Africa
(French Morocco/The Kingdom of Morocco), Thailand, the Netherlands,
Norway and many locations within the US.
		George
met his wife and the love of his life, Gerda, on November 22, 1969,
while stationed in the Netherlands. They met on a blind date through
mutual friends. Gerda introduced herself as “Carol” as she didn’t think
he could pronounce her name correctly. He said differently and the rest
as they say is history. They were married on February 10, 1971. Included
in the package was Gerda’s daughter Michelle, who was 3 when they met.
George never thought twice and took her as his own from day 1. Their
union brought 4 more children: Gunther, Diana, Garth and Gwynn. After
the Netherlands they lived in Florida, Norway and Georgia.
		When
George retired, the family moved to Lennox, SD. He worked for the State
of South Dakota in disaster preparedness and decided in 1982 to obtain a
double major in education & special education from Augustana College in
Sioux Falls. He taught for 3 years in South Dakota and in August 1988
took a teaching job in Whitter, Alaska. He taught for 2 years there and
retired again. From 1990 - 1997 he worked at the Military Fuel Storage
facility doing various jobs. He volunteered for the Whittier Fire
Department from 1998 - 2019 as a fireman and maintenance man. He also
volunteered from 1990 - 2018 as Santa for the children in Whittier
arriving every year on the fire truck.
		George
and his wife moved to Nebraska in August 2021 and settled into a nice
apartment in Friend. They truly enjoyed being closer to their daughters
and they met many new friends in the short time they were there.
		George
enjoyed many things in his lifetime: fishing, hunting, reading, wine
making, crossword puzzles, reading comics, and growing jalapenos. He was
also an avid model railroad collector for many, many years. He was a
member of the American Legion (67 years), the VFW, the Knights of
Columbus, the Lions Club and the National Model Railroad Association. He
received a quilt of honor for his service in March 2022.
		George’s
Catholic upbringing had a lasting impact on his life. He was a lector at
church and made it a point when he moved to Nebraska to go to daily
		Mass.
		George
is preceded in death by his parents, sister, mother and father-in-law,
		one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
		George
is survived by his wife Gerda, of 53 years, Friend, NE; daughter
Michelle Bachtell, Lincoln NE; son Gunther Weamire, Honolulu, HI; Diana
(Rod) Krupicka, Milligan, NE; Garth Weamire, Bee Cave, TX; Gwynn (Bee)
